NewsAnglia in Bloom Award Success
We are
delighted to announce that Sudbury Meadow received the Special Award for
Biodiversity at the Anglia in Bloom award ceremony on 12th September
2007. This is the first time that Sudbury Meadow has been nominated for any
award, and it was up against stiff competition from a number of other excellent
sites across the region. Melvyn Curtis (left in picture) from Huntingdonshire
District Council's Operations section, joined Alison Pearson to accept the
award. Despite a difficult year in which the wet weather in June prevented the normal meadow cut, as well as reducing the number of butterflies, the meadow and gardens looked lovely when the judges visited on 12th July. They were pleased to meet volunteers working in the gardens and orchard, and managed a few words with them before being whisked off to the next stop on their tour of the town. Sudbury Meadow was not the only award winner. St Neots achieved Silver in the Large Town category of the competition and Bargroves Vegetable Garden received the Special Award for Best Garden for Special Needs. Well done everybody! Support from St Neots Town Council For the second year running, St Neots Town Council have kindly supported Friends of Sudbury Meadow with a donation of £1000, on 17th July 2007. The money will go towards information boards on sites. Six shrub boards are due to be installed at Sudbury Meadow in the autumn with a number of others due to be developed for 2008. |
